I gave this review three stars out of fairness. When I ordered it I was not aware it was for Mac machines, and I don’t have a computer what will accomodadete it. I gave it to a friend who uses a Mac and he tells me it works well. Sorry I cant give a personal opinion.

The product I received had a faulty code and could not be installed. I contacted tech support and received a reply 3 days later. That lost the review two stars. They had me download a new copy and gave me a new registration code. That fixed that problem
I am running this app on a G5 iMac with OS 10.5.8, It was easy to install and photos are more accessible than from the Adobe Elements 6. However, it is limited in a lot of ways compared to Elements. First, far fewer brushes. Second, it lacks what I consider an essential tool – the sticky or magnetic lasso. Third, thought it has lots of special effects filters, most of them render a photo illegible – more ways to blur, more ways to tile a photo, skew it, smear it, blow it up. I guess those are special effects. Since I usually want to enhance my photos, not alter them to make them look like something else, I find those kinds of effect pretty useless. That lost it another star.
It lacks the color comparisons that Photoshop and iPhoto tools has – add more blue? More green? I like to see the possibilities side by side. It also lacks the ability to save the file to another format. This is such a limiting factor that I took away another star.
I would say that this software is a big editing step above the tools that come with iPhoto, and it doesn’t cost much so that’s a plus. But for another 20 dollars, Adobe Elements 6 (for Mac) is a much better deal. I am hoping Adobe will come out with Elements 7 for Mac….someday. In the meantime, I won’t be switching to Pixelmator.

I loaded the software without a problem. When I tried to work on any of my photos, the program would shutdown . I would open it and it would shutdown again. I posted a request from pixelmator for info to straighten the problem out. I was told to delete a file. I did this and now I cant open it at all. I might try to reload it, once I add snow leopard. I am not impressed with the program at all.l

I sooooo wanted this to be the product I was looking for, but it isn’t.
I have a Macbook Pro, 13.5″ so it has limited space for working. In the past, I have used Photoshop, and there were similarities, and yet it wasn’t an exact match, so there was a learning curve for me. Therefore, my first mistake was printing out the user’s guide. It’s huge, and with the black background, I used a slew of paper and a lot more ink which cost about $150 for the print out!!! Not a savings. I did not know of a way to modify the document to not have a black background, I imagine it might be possible to someone more saavy than I.
The software is fine, but for my situation, I must say it was a disappointment. I had hoped to find something that would be affordable, but would have a depth of product. I have not found any compatible “plug-ins”, which limits the expansion of the software, and as I mentioned, on my laptop, I can’t easily refer to the user manual online, so the benefit of a less expensive product was diminished by the cost of printing out the manual.
If your situation is different than mine, and you have a desktop computer, and /or a larger screen so you can use the online manual, this may work for you. I hope developers will be creating plug-ins for this product now that I have it.
Bottom line, I was disappointed but YMMV (your mileage may vary) Good luck!

I really wanted to like Pixelmator and believe in its promise that it would be software that would have the Mac’s user friendliness and intuitiveness. But my initial attempts to use it out of the box have been frustrating and have not given me the results I had hoped for. I don’t need complicated graphic design help, as one might get with Photo Shop, just something simple for an amateur like me who wants to make his digital snapshots look better and maybe add a bit of text to them. So far, Pixelmator has not delivered. I’ll stick with the painfully simple iPhoto for now.
